Consulting - Strategy in an Oil and Gas Major

Facilitating the development of strategy in an oil and gas major.

Our client was re-thinking the strategy for a significant UK oil and gas field. The client had assigned a team of geologists, engineers, and commercial analysts to a disused office block overlooking Aberdeen harbour. We were assigned to support the strategy process. We used the temporary relocation of three core databases to the new secure site to re-conceive the relationship between functional specialists - surface and subsurface engineers, geologists and commercial experts. This enabled a more integrated set of strategy proposals to be developed.

We also used the new location as a base to design visitor protocols that enabled the strategists to interact with key stakeholders which also had the effect of drawing the team together and further enhacing the quality of their exchanges.

By attending to the temporary "home" and what it afforded (e.g. opening a disused kitchen as a convivial meeting place) we reconstituted strategic relations and helped the client to a fuller understanding of what a strategy meant in respect of this field.
