Consulting - Culture change in Kazakhstan

Creating a manageable culture on a joint Anglo Italian gas project in Kazakhstan.

A series of unplanned gas releases and other accidents alerted leaders to serious cultural issues on a jointly managed project on a large, highly compressed and toxic gas field in eastern Kazakhstan.

FGC provided the cultural lead, working alongside other specialist consultancies (e.g. on safety). It was discovered that loyalties were split between the various home offices in Italy, the UK and Kazakhstan and that there was little attachment to the project as a coherently managed entity.

Using a mixture of coaching, organizational design and team building FGC helped the project leadership to develop the necessary centripetal energy to significantly shift loyalties and, over two years, to develop a shared commitment to the project. This provided the basis for a more effective and unified management of operations.
